Consultations & Private Lessons

Preparing for an amateur orchestra or band performance?

Looking for lessons as a beginner?

Restarting learning after a break?

Preparing for an exam?

Whatever your goal, you can be sure of my commitment to support you to reach your full potential and even exceed your own expectations.

I specialise in orchestral playing so, if you're a non-professional orchestral musician looking for advice with your orchestra's repertoire, I can help with technical and musical 'tricks of the trade'.

I welcome all enquiries for tuition, whether for a one-off advice lesson or regular collaboration. You don't need to have a lesson every week or at a fixed time.

I've been teaching school age students since 1994 and also teach adult students who play for pleasure. They range from complete beginners to ABRSM Diploma standard.

My students and their families say....

"Thank you very much for meeting [Student C] and ourselves this evening. I think she summed you up as we walked across the road in two words,"She's awesome!" She felt very inspired by your whole approach to being an oboist and bringing in humour as well as talent. She would very much love to have lessons with you."

"Thank you for all your help and encouragement. I've really enjoyed learning the oboe with you- you're doing a great job at keeping the double-reed dying-breed alive! Thanks for helping me with my Grade 6. I hope to join an orchestra at uni."

"Thank you for teaching me this year and getting me through my Grade 1 exam!"

"Louise- Many thanks for the lesson tonight. Many useful tips!"

"Dear Louise,
We are so grateful for all you did for [Student K] through her lessons and especially for helping her achieve her grade exam. Since we moved to the area two years ago she has grown in confidence and ability generally, her time with you greatly contributing to this as she always looked forward to her lessons and respected what you taught her, taking great pride in her progress. From a parental point of view your weekly comments and exam preparation were much appreciated, and all your words of encouragement."

Reeds Reeds Reeds......
I make my own reeds from scratch and can help you with reed adjustment to optimise ease and enjoyment of playing, as well as your dynamic range, tone colour and intonation.

If you're interested in learning how to make your own reeds or need advice on equipment, I'll be pleased to help.

One of the very few student reed disasters I couldn't salvage....
